Background

Early in in my career I was involved in the development of minimally invasive sinus surgery (endoscopic sinus surgery) in New Zealand. This has lead to two major interests:
- the patient with sinus pain and no obvious/ minimal sinus diease
- the patient who has had endoscopic sinus surgery and is not better.

Both of these situations has lead to a 20 year search for answers and solutions. As part of my working week I work at The Auckland Regional Pain Service where I largely see patients with difficulty orofacial pain. I have written a book for the general public in this area called "Healing Headaches." It is available in libraries and through bookshops.

Sinus Surgery

Since my return from London in 1991, I have been to the forefront  in the development of endoscopic sinus surgical techniques.  I was the first person in Auckland to repair CSF leaks andperform pituitary surgery endoscopically.

Rhinoplasty

Over the last fifteen years, I have been involved with the treatment of a large proportion of  the  nasal trauma from contact sports or accidental injury in the Auckland region. These constitute a particularly challenging group of patients. This focus has given me an extensive experience in both cosmetic and functional nasal surgery(over 1000 cases).  I am doing approximately 50 rhinoplasties a year.

Prominent ear surgery

Another specific surgical interest has been the surgical correction of prominent ears. I have lectured internationally and published 3 scientific papers on the subject. I have now performed over 100 otoplasties.
